The wider cannabinoid family
Alongside the well-studied CBD and THC, the plant produces many other phytocannabinoids, usually in smaller amounts. They act on, or modulate, the same endocannabinoid system and related targets — but each has its own profile and, importantly, a much thinner evidence base.
CBG (cannabigerol)
Often called a “parent” cannabinoid because its acidic form is a biosynthetic precursor to others. CBG is non-intoxicating and an area of early research interest; human clinical evidence remains limited, so any claims should be made cautiously.
CBN (cannabinol)
CBN forms as THC ages and oxidises. It is only mildly intoxicating and is popularly associated with sleep — though robust clinical evidence for that use is limited to date.
What this means clinically
Minor cannabinoids are promising but under-studied relative to CBD and THC. Base decisions on the strength of evidence for the specific preparation and indication in front of you, and appraise sources critically — the clinical evidence library is the place to start.
